Gerry Dougherty, President
Boston Independence Group, Inc.
Gerard (Gerry) Dougherty grew-up in Worcester, MA, in a middle-income family with 6 children. He attended local, public schools. He graduated from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst with a BA in Economics in 1981. He holds a certificate program designation in Financial Management and Leadership, presented jointly in 2004 by The American College and Pennsylvania State University. He is a 1982 graduate of the Massachusetts State Police Academy, 75th MPOC, and served as a Massachusetts Police Officer for 5 years.
In January of 1986, Gerry began a career in the financial service industry. He started as a representative, building and servicing a clientele. His achievements were recognized and he was promoted into various management positions within large financial service organizations. In 1994, Gerry entered the ranks of Executive Management, where he remained for 16 years. In that time he garnered a unique understanding of the financial service industry's inner workings, how products and customers are sometimes misaligned, where industry revenue objectives can conflict with consumer interests.
The 2008 market crash was an event that negatively impacted many retirees, changing their lives, forever, altering the retirement goals that some had once envisioned. It brought a turning point to Gerry view of how individuals who are at-or-near retirement should position hard-fought retirement assets to avoid loss and ensure a guaranteed lifetime income. Gerry began the design of a new company that would focus on the unique needs of individuals who are close to retirement, to protect their assets and allow them to retire with dignity and happiness. It became his personal crusade.
With a vision in mind, Gerry formed Boston Independence Group, a retirement planning firm. At it's core, the company is focused on consumers who are about to retire. At retirement the stakes are high, missteps are common. Gerry employs strategies that are designed to protect and grow wealth. You have spent a lifetime accumulating assets, whether you have saved a lot or a little, Gerry can help.
Gerry hosts Making Money Last, America's Retirement Resource., heard on News & Talk Radio AM830 WCRN, every Monday and Friday morning, 10 a.m. - 11 a.m. Gerry has been on this station for 5 years now.
